Freiburg and Stuttgart are two clubs expected to be in the bottom half of the Bundesliga table for most of the season, so Friday night's Week 6 matchup could eventually be very significant in the battle to avoid the relegation spots. At halftime, Freiburg are trailing 1-0 and appear to be in bad shape for the rest of the match.
Central defender Beg Ferarti was forced out of the game early with an injury, a serious blow to Freiburg's chances of getting a positive result in this match, as well as getting good results going forward if his injury is serious. He was replaced by Anton Putsila, and Freiburg's defense was noticeably less organized after the substitution.
Stuttgart found their goal in the 33rd minute, off of a corner kick. Zdravko Kuzmanovic took a well-hit out-swinging corner from the right side, which Freiburg captain Oliver Barth attempted to clear. His average clearance only got as far as Martin Harnik, who hit a shot hard and low at goal. Oliver Baumann saw the ball late and was unable to make a save as the ball skipped over his hand and into the back of the net.
Freiburg definitely looked like the inferior side for much of the first half, and it would take a serious turn of events for them to reverse the current score and pick up some points.
