Freiburg turned on their game and looked like the much better side than Stuttgart in the final 15 minutes of their match, but by that point, they were already in a two goal hole. Papiss Demba Cisse scored a late goal as part of a dominant end of the game, but he was completely invisible in the first half and failed to assert himself on the game until it was too late, as Stuttgart won 2-1 on Friday night on a brace by Martin Harnik.
The first goal came in the first half on a corner kick, sending the teams into halftime with Stuttgart 1-0 up. The second half started with Stuttgart looking to play a more defensive game, and the match became a very physical and borderline dirty affair at that point. Harnik eventually found his second goal in the 73rd minute, assisted by Cristian Molinaro, sealing the deal.
Cisse scored a very nice, tough-fought goal, assisted by substitute Erik Jendrisek, but it was much too little too late. Freiburg might find themselves in the bottom three when the week is finished, while Stuttgart have put another three points between them and the drop zone.
