Juan Pablo Angel spent the first half of the season looking like a corpse for the LA Galaxy. He was completely ineffective and it looked like age had finally caught up to the Colombian striker. Not so fast though. Dumped by the Galaxy, he moved across the hall to Chivas USA and all of a sudden he's a marksman again. Angel scored a brace on Saturday night for Chivas, his sixth and seventh goals in five matches for the Goats as they cruised past Toronto FC to keep their very slim playoff hopes alive.
A dozen minutes into the match, Angel had Chivas in front. The Colombian made a good run down the middle and Ante Jazic hit an absolutely perfect cross in from the left. It was right on Angel's head and while Stefan Frei was able to get a hand to it, it trickled over the line for the opening tally.
Justin Braun doubled the Chivas lead in the 71st minute with a header of his own when he nodded home a cross to the near post, then Angel put the icing on the cake. Angel ran at Andy iro and cut inside, leaving Iro in his dust before ripping a shot from 20 yards that sailed into the net to complete the brace. Maybe Angel's not done yet after all?
Chivas still sit seven points out of the final playoff spot with only four matches left so while they remain alive, they are only barely alive. That's better than Toronto though, who have been out of the race for what feels like years.
