Real Madrid Vs. Ajax Live, 2011 UEFA Champions League: Lineups

Stay connected with SB Nation

Real Madrid has owned Ajax of late in Champions League play and nobody really thinks that Ajax are better than Los Blancos so the hosts shouldn't have any problem coming away with three points today. That's what Jose Mourinho must think too because he is starting Raphael Varane in the center of his defense, an amazingly talented player, but an 18-year-old who has played just twice for Madrid before. That's asking a lot of a kid, but who are we to question Mou?

For Ajax it is about the defense. They have been unable to stop teams in the Eredivisie so their defense is a bit of a mess right now. They can score though and Christian Eriksen and their front three will mak things a real challenge for the Madrid defense.

Real Madrid (4-2-3-1): Iker Casillas; Sergio Ramos, Ricardo Carvalho, Raphael Varane, Alvaro Arbeloa; Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira; Kaka, Mesut Ozil, Cristiano Ronaldo; Karim Benzema

Ajax (4-3-3): Kenneth Vermeer; Gregory Van der Wiel, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Vurnon Anita; Siem de Jong, Theo Janssen, Christian Eriksen; Miralem Sulejmani, Kolbeinn Sigthórsson, Derk Boerrigter
