It was all Real Madrid in the first 45 minutes. They just about split possession evenly with Ajax, but we all know that possession is fool's gold. Ajax had the ball, but didn't do anything with it. Meanwhile, it seemed like every time Madrid got the ball Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka or Mesut Ozil made the Ajax defense shake in their boots. The result was a pair of goals, one from Ronaldo and one from Kaka, that put Los Blancos in front, 2-0, at the Bernabeu.
Madrid got things going with a beautiful move that left Ajax slack jawed. They went more than half the field with one-touch passing, moving the ball around at an incredible pace. Eventually, Ozil opened Karim Benzems up on the right, Benzema crossed for Ronaldo and Ronaldo tapped the ball in to put Madrin in front.
Just before halftime, Los Blancos doubled their lead. This time the maligned Ajax defense lived up, or down, to their reputation. Kaka got the ball 20 yards from goal and was able to turn and survey the field. In this time, no one bothered to close him down so the Brazilian had a go and found the side netting to put Madrid in front.
At this point Madrid just needs to see out the last 45 minutes and keep from getting any more injuries. They're in complete control, but cannot afford to see anyone else go down with an injury and miss time.
