Andres Guardado didn't start the match, but he had the finishing touch that Mexico needed to defeat Chile. He hit a gorgeous free kick just 11 minutes from fulltime to take down the Chileans, 1-0, and save a match that was a bore until Guardado lit it up with this winner.
With both Mexico and Chile missing many of their best players, it wasn't a very clean or entertaining match. The Mexican stars who did play, like Guardado, Pablo Barrera, Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez and Gerrardo Torrado, only did so off of the bench. Chile brought Alexis Sanchez, Mauricio Isla and Gary Medel off the bench to inject some life into the match, but even then, Humberto Suazo was missing.
It just wasn't a very pretty match for either side. In the end though, it had a great goal thanks to Guardado, whose brilliant free kick woke up the crowd and handed Mexico a fantastic winner.
