Real Madrid are through to the quarterfinals of Copa Del Rey, but they didn't make it easy on themselves. In fact, they were downright gifted the clinching goal in Malaga on Tuesday night, with goalkeeper Willy committing an absolute howler to ensure Madrid's progression to the next round in a 1-0 win for Los Merengues, which gave them the 4-2 aggregate victory.
The tie was very much in doubt for most of the second leg, with Madrid on top of Malaga but hardly dominant. It appeared that the hosts were very capable of getting a goal to tie up the aggregate score, while Madrid were far from convincing. In the 72nd minute, Karim Benzema grabbed the goal Madrid needed to seal passage to the next round, but it wasn't with a brilliant finish. He hit a shit right to Willy, who whiffed and allowed the ball to go between his legs and into the back of the net.
Elsewhere, a mostly first team Real Sociedad side collapsed as Mallorca trounced them 6-1 to go through 6-3 on aggregate. Elswhere, Racing Santander did not put their best foot forward and drew Mirandes 1-1, sending the third division outfit through to the quarterfinals.
