FC Dallas signed 21-year-old Panamanian defender Carlos Rodriguez on Friday, continuing to bolster their back line in the anticipation that George John will be leaving the team for good. Rodriguez came to FC Dallas' attention through his play with Panamanian side Tauro FC. The two teams played each other twice during CONCACAF Champions League.
"We liked what we saw in him during Champions League last year," FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman said in a team release. "He’s athletic with a good work ethic and he’s young at 21 years old. He can play both left and right side full back and is attack-minded. We were looking for another player to give us balance and depth in our defense, and I believe Carlos will do very well in MLS."
Rodriguez has appeared twice for Panama's national team, earning caps against Costa Rica and Paraguay. He is also listed as being on the roster for Panama's upcoming friendly against the United States.
