2012 MLS All-Star Game Will Be Played At Philadelphia's PPL Park On July 25

The 2012 MLS All-Star Game will be played at Philadelphia's PPL Park on July 25, the league announced during a press conference on Tuesday. The format of the game will remain the same, with the league's all-stars taking on a foreign club.

Although no opponent was announced at this time, it is already known that such clubs as Liverpool, Chelsea, Celtic and AS Roma will all be in the United States this summer. The all-stars played Manchester United in each of the two previous editions of the game and each of the past seven games have been played against teams from the United Kingdom.

"Philadelphia has a deep tradition of playing and supporting soccer, and the huge, enthusiastic fan base of the Philadelphia Union is a great success story for Major League Soccer," Garber said in a statement. "The 2012 AT&T All-Star Game will be a great opportunity to celebrate Philadelphia’s soccer fans while giving viewers around the globe a glimpse of their passion."

This game will almost certainly mark the lowest attended all-star game in league history, as PPL Park is the smallest venue to host the annual exhibition. The 2007 edition, which was played against Celtic at Colorado's Dick's Sporting Good Park, drew 18,661. PPL Park's listed capacity is 18,500.
