Toronto FC was one of the worst defenses in 2011. On Monday, they made another move toward improving that situation, signing Chilean defender Miguel Aceval. The 29-year-old left back/center back most recently played in the Chilean first division with Universidad de Concepcion, scoring five goals in 30 matches. He made his national team debut on Sept. 4, going 90 minutes against Mexico.
"Miguel is an experienced defender that has a lot of potential and can be very important for our club," Toronto FC Head Coach & Technical Director Aron Winter said in a team release. "Our defence needed to be addressed during the offseason and this signing complements our recent activity from last week."
Aceval would seem capable of helping Toronto FC at either center back or left back and could prove a significant upgrade over either Andy Iro or Danleigh Borman.
