QPR Close To Djibril Cisse Signing

Former Liverpool and Sunderland striker Djibril Cisse is apparently set to sign with Queens Park Rangers from Lazio before the close of the transfer window on Tuesday, according to several reports. The 30-year-old, who's started 20 games with the Serie A club after two years at Panithanikos, has already agreed personal terms with Rangers, who will pay Lazio £4M to take him to Loftus Road.

Cisse will join QPR's three other new signings - Milan fullback Taye Taiwo, Mali international midfielder Samba Diakite and Manchester City's Nedum Onuoha - at the forefront of Mark Hughes's attempt to guide last season's Championship winners away from the relegation zone and to the safety of mid-table. The injection of quality into the squad should be enough to see Rangers clear of any danger, but if it doesn't Hughes will have plenty of explaining to do. It's not like his new quartet came particularly cheap.
