After months of being linked to Chelsea, Kevin De Bruyne is finally going to make the move to Stamford Bridge. Reports out of Belgium have confirmed that Racing Genk have agreed to sell the 20-year-old to the Blues for €8 million with escalators that could push the fee to €9.6 million. De Bruyne has already passed his medical and will sign a contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge through 2017, but first he will finish out the season with Genk after being loaned back to the club through the summer.
De Bruyne already has two caps for Belgium, but it was his play for Genk last season that most impressed observers. He scored five goals and added 16 assists en route to the Belgian Pro League champions, one of the stars in the league's most potent attack.
For Chelsea, this is about reinvigorating an aging squad, especially in the attack where more of their older players are expected to leave the club before long. They signed Juan Mata in the summer and have Daniel Sturridge, but De Bruyne gives them a trio of young attackers and they still have their eyes on Lucas Moura. Before long, Chelsea will look little like the Blues of old and they will be very much Andre Villas-Boas' squad. De Bruyne is just another step in that.
