West Brom To Sign Liam Ridgewell

Stay connected with SB Nation

Liam Ridgewell's been pining for a return to the Premier League since last summer, and the Birmingham City defender appears to have finally received his wish with his club agreeing a fee with West Bromwich Albion that will send the defender to the Hawthorns. The Baggies had already seen one offer rejected by the Championship club and although things looked touch and go for a little while everything is now settled and Ridgewell is in the process of agreeing personal terms with his new side.

Ridgewell, 27, appeared in almost eighty league games with Aston Villa before famously switching allegiances in the contentious rivalry between Villa and Birmingham City. Now he's adding a third rival to the mix with the WBA swap - we can probably assume that a move to Wolves is somewhere in his future. Roy Hodgson will presumably use Ridgewell in his natural position as a central defender, but he might also be able to unseat Nicky Shorey at left back. The terms of the deal are unconfirmed.
