Despite words to the contrary from Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo earlier today, it appears that the Ligue 1 leaders are on the verge of signing Inter Milan midfielder Thiago Motta before the transfer deadline later today for a €10M fee.
It's difficult to understand why Inter would be so keen to discard a key component of their midfield, even if the fee was a pretty good one. The acquisitions of Freddy Guarin and Angelo Palombo don't necessarily make up for the big gap that will be left behind in Thiago Motta's absence, but Motta isn't a particularly sexy player and those guys tend to be let go of far too easily. PSG, meanwhile, add some needed steel to their midfield.
