Read More: Martin O'Neill (MANAGER - Sunderland), Sunderland
Sunderland continue their talent raid - they've now acquired towering Greek defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos from Wolfsburg on loan until the end of the season. Kyrgiakos, who's had spells with Glasgow Rangers and Liverpool, hasn't featured much for the Bundesliga side this campaign, but with Sunderland in need of some defensive help Martin O'Neill was more than happy to bring him in for the rest of the year:
Sotirios offers a real physical presence, coupled with a wealth of experience, which will be an undoubted benefit to us in the next few months. I'm delighted to welcome him to the club and I'm sure he is looking forward to the challenge of returning to the Premier League.
This is something of a desperation move for the Black Cats, but when most of your defence is down injured for extended periods of time, it makes perfect sense to bring in the likes of Wayne Bridge and Kyrgiakos on loan. There's hardly any risk, and they'll do a reasonable job.
