Michael Ballack returned to Bayer Leverkusen in 2010 with plenty of questions to answer. Battling injury, age and doubts after a rough stint at Chelsea, nobody knew exactly what to expect from Ballack when he joined his old club. Injuries and age have remained a problem at the Bay Arena, but when he's played, he's played well and shown flashes of his old brilliance. The Bay Arena won't be witness to it for much longer though. The club's general manager Rudi Voller said that he expects Ballack to leave the club when his contract expires in the summer.
"At this moment, the trend is he will leave our club come the end of the season," Voller told Sky Deutschland. "I am not expecting this, but things seem to go this way."
Ballack has long been linked to a move to MLS and this summer could be when he finally makes that move. At 35 years old, it would be a shock if Ballack hung up his boots either, while a stay in Germany with another club remains an option.
