Recap of the late Europa League matches, where Liverpool and Newcastle were victorious.

Group A

Liverpool 1-0 Anzhi Makhachkala

Anzhi's plan to park the bus in front of their goal worked in the first half, but a momentary lapse allowed a goal off Stuart Downing's (that's not a typo) right foot (that's not a typo either) in the 58th minute and Liverpool held on for the victory. The Reds take over the top spot in the group with the win.

Young Boys 3-1 Udinese

Young Boys got their first points on the group stage and created a traffic jam with a 3-1 win over Udinese. Raúl Bobadilla scored a hat trick for the home side, including a late penalty seven minutes after Udinese had pulled within one goal in the 75th minute.

Group B

Atlético Madrid 2-1 Académica de Coimbra

Atlético went ahead 2-0 thanks to second half goals from Costa Diego and Belozoglu Emre, before holding off a late charge Académica to hold on for the win. Atlético stays in first place with a perfect record halfway through the group stage.

Hapoel Tel-Aviv 1-2 Viktoria Plzen

Hanan Maman staked Hapoel to a first half lead, but goals from Pavel Horvath and Frantisek Rajtoral flipped the score as Plzen held on to second place in the group.

Group C

AEL 0-1 Fenerbahce

Egeman Korkmaz's goal in the 72nd minute allowed Fenerbache to take advance of Marseille's loss to move in to first place in the group.

Borussia Monchengladbach 2-0 Marseille

Monchengladbach interjected themselves back in to the fight for the group with a thorough 2-0 victory over Marseille. Filip Daems scored on a penalty in the first half and Peniel Kokou Mlapa iced the game in the 67th minute.

Group D

Maritimo 1-1 Bordeaux

Yoan Gouffran put Bordeaux ahead in the 30th minute and Martimo's Valentin equalized six minutes later as the two sides played to a 1-1 draw. Bordeaux holds on the second place with the result, three points behind the leaders Newcastle.

Newcastle United 1-0 Club Brugge

Gabriel Obertan's first half goal was all Newcastle needed to keep their advantage at the top of the group.

Group E

Steaua Bucuresti 2-0 Molde

Vlad Chiriches and Raul Rusescu scored two minutes apart in the first half as Steaua thoroughly dominated Molde. The visitors only managed one shot over 90 minutes. Steaua moves in the first place in the group, three points in front of Copenhagen.

VfB Stuttgart 0-0 FC Copenhagen

Visiting Copenhagen will likely be happy with a scoreless draw against Stuttgart. Copenhagen earns a point and takes over second place in the group.

Group F

Dnipro 3-1 Napoli

Napoli's B-team was no match for Dnipro as the Ukranian side rolled to a 3-1 victory over the Italians. Artem Fedetskiy put Dinipro ahead in the 2nd minutes and they never looked back. Nascimento Leite Matheus and Victor Giuliano added goals as well, while Edinson Cavani scored Napoli's loan goal in a penalty.

PSV Eindhoven 1-1 AIK

AIK took the lead in the 60th minute thanks to Kwame Karikari but Jeremain Lens salvaged a point for PSV with a goal 20 minutes later.
