Torino vs. Parma, Preview: No pressure, no diamonds

Tullio M. Puglia

Torino and Parma both lack the ability -- or perhaps the desire -- to apply the sort of pressure that leads to a win. Will they both continue to play it safe in Turin?

It seems like it's been so long since Torino defeated Atalanta 5-1 in Bergamo. And really, it has been almost a month, and the granata have nothing to show for it -- unless you count a point against Palermo. They haven't scored in their last two matches and, quite frankly, have rarely looked inclined to do so. Are Torino seeking safety point by precious point, or are they simply absent creativity?

Parma aren't quite as bad as their 10 points show, but they really aren't very good, either. Their losses have come to Juventus, Napoli, and Catania; their draws to AC Milan, Fiorentina and Genoa. All perfectly respectable and probably exactly as to be expected. Parma aren't the sort to apply any pressure to their opponents, particularly when they're visiting, so if Torino could just find a way to score a goal, this one should go to the Bulls.

Torino Injuries and Suspensions

Abou Diop, Mario Santana, Sergiu Suciu, and Simone Verdi (injured)

Angelo Ogbonna (doubtful)

The most significant loss here would be Ogbonna, who was so impressive for the granata last season that he was called to the Italian side. Last week Guillermo Rodríguez took his place, and had a bit of a tough time against Josip Iličić.

Parma Injuries and Suspensions

Daniele Galloppa and Fabiano Santacroce (injured); Antonio Mirante (suspended)

Raffaele Palladino (doubtful)

It's rather impressive when, in Week 9, your keeper already has to sit out for accumulation of yellow cards. Marco Parolo subbed in for Galloppa when he pulled up injured last week -- no reason to think he won't start in Turin.

Match Date/Time: Sunday, October 26 at 3 p.m. local, 10 a.m. ET (note: this is not a typo; the European clocks change this weekend while the U.S. waits until next weekend).

Venue: Stadio Olimpico, Turin

TV: Sky Calcio 4, Premium Calcio (Italy)
