Newcastle vs. West Bromwich Albion: Preview and TV schedule

Stu Forster

Two good teams come together in what should be an entertaining game at St. James Park.

Two good teams come together on Sunday when Newcastle host West Brom at St. James Park, in what should be a match that offers more than the usual mid-table battle.

Alan Pardew took the opportunity to rest his Newcastle players in midweek, so he will have a fully-fit squad at his disposal as he attempt to continue to live up to the promise of the Magpies' remarkable season last year. In order to do so, he will have to find a way past West Brom., who are flying high in 6th in the Premier League, but suffered a defeat in their last game against Manchester City.

The hosts, however, are in poor form, having won just one of their last seven Premier League matches. Most of those have been difficult games, and Newcastle have played well, but nonetheless, they must arrest their dip in form before it becomes a real problem. West Brom may prove good opponents, as despite their overachievement so far this season, they still tend to struggle away from home.

Newcastle injuries and suspensions

Out: Cheik Tiote (suspension)

West Bromwich Albion injuries and suspensions

In doubt: Claudio Yacob (hamstring), Chris Brunt (hamstring), Billy Jones (knee).

Cheik Tiote is suspended for the hosts after he was sent off in last week's Tyne-Wear derby. Alan Pardew rested a host of players for Thursday's 1-0 victory over Club Brugge in the Europa League, and Tim Krul, Fabricio Coloccini, Mike Williamson, Yohan Cabaye, Hatem Ben Arfa and Demba Ba should all start.

West Brom have no players out for certain, and Yacob, Brunt and Jones will all undergo late fitness tests. Brunt's return could be crucial for the Baggies, as their captain has been a big loss to them throughout his injury.

Match date/time: 3 p.m. local, 10 a.m. E.T.

Venue: St. James Park, Newcastle, England
