Newcastle United managed to see off the challenge posed by West Bromwich Albion in a thrilling match at St. James' Park. With the Baggies in fine form, it was always going to be a tough test for Alan Pardew's men, but thanks to an injury time 'strike' from Papiss Cisse they emerged with the points on Sunday.

Demba Ba managed to break the deadlock in the 35th minute, volleying in despite Ben Foster's intervention with a delicious piece of skill, but that goal only came after Tim Krul had done brilliantly to deny Romelu Lukaku one on one at the other end of the pitch. West Brom were always threatening, and it didn't come as much of a surprise when they drew level.

Krul has twice stopped the impressive Lukaku from finding his way onto the scoresheet, but the teenager finally made his mark in the 55th minute when he headed home a cross from Zoltan Gera. His effort turned out to be for naught, however -- despite holding on well into stoppage time, the visitors were undone by an incredibly fortunate deflection, with Sammy Ameobi shooting off Cisse's back and past Foster for a backbreaking 93rd minute goal.
