River Plate lead the Super Clasico at halftime, but injuries have compromised their ability to change the game. The hosts have already been forced to make two substitutions due to injuries, but lead Boca Juniors 1-0 thanks to a brilliant free kick.
Leonardo Ponzio scored just two minutes into the game on a free kick, after Emiliano Albin took down Rodrigo Mori 25 yards from goal. Ponzio curled an incredible shot over the wall and fooled Boca goalkeeper Agustín Orion, bending the ball into the near post and setting off the crowd at the Monumental.
Unfortunately, Mori suffered an injury on that foul and had to come out of the game. River were also hit with an injury to Martin Aguirre later in the half, and had to substitute him off as well.
River have been the better side, even with those injury problems, and Boca have only managed a couple of half chances. They continue to miss the creativity of Juan Roman Riquelme, and might have to turn to 18-year-old star Leandro Paredes in the second half.

Boca Juniors and River Plate haven't met in the Argentine Primera for 17 months, and this edition of the Super Clasico might end up getting even more chippy than most as a result. Unsurprisingly, both managers have selected their most experienced and composed players over younger, more talented options.
Boca have rotated players in their No. 10 slot in the absence of Juan Roman Riquelme and have picked the most veteran option for this match, 26-year-old Cristian Chávez. River have picked David Trezeguet up top, even though he has just one goal this year and was in France for personal reasons earlier this week.
River Plate starting lineup (4-4-2): Barovero; Mercado, Pezzella, Bottinelli, Ra. Funes Mori; Sánchez, Cirigliano, Ponzio, Aguirre; Rodrigo Mora, Trezeguet
Boca Juniors starting lineup (4-3-1-2): Orión; Albín, Schiavi, Burdisso, Rodriguez; Somoza, Erviti, Sánchez Miño; Chavez; Viatri, Silva
Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. ET, 3:30 p.m. local time from the Monumental, and the game can be seen on GolTV in the U.S.
