Real Madrid recovered well from their mid-week Champions League defeat, putting an absolute beating on Mallorca. The Vermilions have gotten off to a brilliant start this season after making some shrewd summer signings, but they were no match for Los Merengues as the visitors cruised to a 5-0 win.
Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals apiece, and had the game virtually wrapped up by the 22nd minute. Higuain opened the scoring eight minutes in, then set up Ronaldo for Madrid's second goal to help his side to a 2-0 lead at halftime.
After the break, Mallorca didn't fare any better. They kept the score respectable until the 70th minute, but the floodgates opened at that time, with Ronaldo setting up Higuain for his second goal. The Argentinian striker returned the favor once again, setting up Ronaldo's second goal there minutes later.
Jose Maria Callejon entered the game as a substitute after that fourth goal and piled onto his team's lead in stoppage time with another goal. Madrid is still eight points behind Barcelona in La Liga, but off the back of their Champions League loss, this was certainly an impressive performance.
