Bayern Munich announced the defender will miss at least two weeks after tearing a muscle in his right thigh.
Bayern Munich have announced that Holger Badstuber will miss at least two weeks after tearing a muscle in his right thigh. This will come as a relief after initial reports were that he suffered a torn hamstring.
Badstuber, 23, came off at halftime for Xherdan Shaqiri in Bayern's 2-1 loss at home to Bayer Leverkusen over the weekend. With Bayern down a goal but consistently dominating the match, it was believed to be a sub for tactical reasons. It was revealed after the match that Badstuber was injured. He has started every competitive fixture for Bayern so far this season.
The club will likely be without Badstuber for Wednesday's DFB Pokal match against Kaiserslautern, two league matches against Hamburg and Eintracht Frankfurt, and a Champions League match against Lille.
With Badstuber out for the next few fixtures, the obvious choice to replace him at left back is David Alaba. The Austrian is a more natural left back than Badstuber who was playing out of position mostly due to Alaba's preseason injury.
