Napoli crashed to a shock 1-0 defeat to Atalanta, thanks to a screamer from Carlos Carmona. The Chilean midfielder - returning from injury, struck on 19 minutes to shoot Atalanta into the top ten. Meanwhile, Napoli drop to third behind rivals Inter and fall six points behind leaders Juventus.
Napoli were still without hitman Edinson Cavani, while Atalanta's German Denis lined up against his former employers. It was Denis who had a hand in the deciding goal. He teed the ball up on the edge of the box for Carmona to volley past a helpless Morgan De Sanctis at his near post.
Marek Hamsik and Lorenzo Insigne went close to equalising, but the hosts held out for their fourth victory of the season. Napoli coach Walter Mazzarri labelled the game as "cursed" when speaking after the game.
He said: "We controlled it from start to finish. We had at least seven shots on goal, while they scored at the only opportunity. We immediately realised it was an off day.
"I'd like to look to the performance, but the fact is the results count and tonight we lost."
