Swansea City vs. Reading: Final score 2-2, Swans wake up late, can only manage draw

Swansea were at close to their best for the final 20 minutes of their game on Saturday, but it didn't erase their poor start. Reading were able to hold on for a 2-2 draw.

Swansea City supporters can be happy that their team managed to sneak a draw out of a 90-minute match while only playing 30 minutes worth of football, but they probably expected their side to beat Reading coming into the day. The Royals aren't enjoying a great return spell in the Premier League, but they earned a solid point in a 2-2 draw at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday.

Pavel Pogrebnyak capitalized on some poor defending and goalkeeping to put Reading up in the 31st minute, and he looked embarrassed to celebrate the goal. Just before halftime, Noel Hunt finished off an unlucky deflection that allowed him to get behind the Swansea defense and apply an uncontested finish.

Swansea didn't start the second half much better than they ended the first, but eventually started to assert themselves on the match after just over an hour had passed. Once they stopped giving the ball away, they looked threatening and finally cut down Reading's lead in the 71st minute. Michu scored his team's first goal with a great diving header, netting his fifth goal of the season.

Wayne Routledge brought Swansea level with a close-range finish on a great counter-attack and through ball by Luke Moore. The Swans continued to look like the better side until the end, but never found a winner. Incredibly, despite their poor play for much of the game, Michael Laudrup's side actually managed to force eight saves out of Alex McCarthy. He will certainly see this as two points dropped rather than a point gained.
