Freiburg vs. Hamburg: Final score 0-0, Hamburg hangs on despite 10 men for 55 minutes

Michael Kienzler

Freiburg and Hamburg played to a scoreless draw.

Hamburg held on for a point against Freiburg despite going a man down after only 35 minutes. The point moves Hamburg to 14 and Freiburg 13.

Daniel Caligiuri nearly put Freiburg ahead after only nine minutes, but Rene Adler made a great save to keep him off the scoresheet. Hamburg then had their opportunities through Heung-Min Son and Maximilian Beister, but Oliver Baumann did well to keep both out.

Only 35 minutes were gone on the clock when Hamburg centerback Paul Scharner was shown his second yellow card and sent off. Thorsten Fink had to rethink his gameplan and brought on Jeffrey Bruma for Beister.

With Hamburg sitting back focusing on defense throughout the second half, Freiburg came close several times in the second half to grabbing a winner, but it was not meant to be. Substitute Jan Rosenthal came the closest, but his shot struck the post before going wide.
