Freiburg eased past Stuttgart with a impressive 3-0 victory in the Baden-Württemberg derby.
Freiburg hammered Stuttgart 3-0 in a Baden-Württemberg derby on Sunday afternoon. The win moves Freiburg all the way up to 6th place in the table while Stuttgart languishes down in 12th.
The hosts took control early in the contest and tested Sven Ulreich several times early. The goal came after 22 minutes. Jan Rosenthal beat William Kvist and fired past Ulreich for the 1-0 lead. Stuttgart nearly equalized just after halftime, but neither Christian Gentner nor Shinji Okazaki were able to tap in Christian Molinaro's cross that went across the face of the goal.
Pavel Krmas was on hand to knock in a rebound in the 67th minute to make it 2-0. Stuttgart capitulated, and Max Kruse scored six minutes later to make it 3-0. Stuttgart didn't manage another competent attack in the match.
Stuttgart have too many good players to be playing this inconsistent. However, all of the credit for this result must go to Freiburg's Christian Streich. Since taking over last winter, he's improved Freiburg all over the pitch. Currently, they're equal with Borussia Dortmund for the second best defense in the league behind Bayern Munich.
