Things very nearly go from bad to worse for Arsenal at the stroke of halftime. They've been catastrophically poor all half, and Manchester United had a chance to double their lead at Old Trafford, only to blow it in amusing fashion. It's not entirely clear what Santi Cazorla thought he was doing when he opted to block a cross from Ashley Young by waving his hands at the ball, but it was immediately obvious to everyone except the Spaniard that it was a stonewall penalty.
Mike Dean immediately pointed to the spot despite vociferous protests from Cazorla, but Wayne Rooney managed to blast his shot just wide of the post from twelve yards, with Vito Mannone guessing the right way. It was a weak, mishit penalty -- much like the rest of United's tries from the spot this year. At 1-0, the match is still within Arsenal's grasp, but they'll have to play much better after the break to make this miss count.
