After another stellar week in Europe, the Bundesliga returns with another great weekend of action.
The Bundesliga had an outstanding week in European competition this week with four wins and three draws. They'll return to league play this weekend, and Bayern will be looking to stretch their lead at the top of the table with Eintracht Frankfurt coming to the Allianz Arena.
Friday, November 9
Mainz vs Nürnberg - 20:30 CET / 2:30 PM EDT
Mainz was on a nice run of form before they dropped a 2-1 decision last week to Werder Bremen. Adam Szalai is tied for the league lead with 8 goals this season and five of them have come in the last three games. Nürnberg ended a six match winless run with a victory last week against Wolfsburg. They'll get another win this weekend and back on the right track.
Prediction: Mainz 1 - 2 Nürnberg
Saturday, November 10
Bayern Munich vs Eintracht Frankfurt - 15:30 CET / 9:30 AM EDT
Bayern Munich will go into Saturday's match with the opportunity to put ten points between themselves and Eintracht Frankfurt. They're coming off of a massive 6-1 victory midweek in the Champions League against Lille and will be full of confidence heading into the contest. Mario Mandzukic was ill and missed the midweek game, and he'll likely find himself back in the starting lineup for the weekend encounter. Frankfurt's Alexander Meier has been in great form this season with seven goals to his name. Only Mario Mandzukic and Adam Szalai have scored more this year. Frankfurt will have to defend a lot in this match as Bayern will be attacking a lot. They won't be able to throw numbers forward as often without the deadly Bayern counter attack coming back at them quickly.
Prediction: Bayern Munich 3 - 1 Eintracht Frankfurt
Schalke vs Werder Bremen - 15:30 CET / 9:30 AM EDT
Schalke are up to second in the league ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt on goal differential. They saw their five match unbeaten run in the league (including four wins) snapped last weekend with a loss to Nürnberg. Their European performances were looking good also with a win away to Arsenal and a draw this week. The guns are there for Schalke to score on this Bremen team, but the concern will be along the backline. There are enough questions along that line that Nils Petersen, Kevin De Bruyne, and Marko Arnautovic will be asking questions. Bremen have been dangerous with Aaron Hunt pulling the strings from deep. The midfielder has five goals and two assists to his name already this season and will be key if Bremen are to find a way to take all three points.
Prediction: Schalke 2 - 1 Werder Bremen
Freiburg vs Hamburg - 15:30 CET / 9:30 AM EDT
Christian Streich's side has been leaning on Daniel Caligiuri as of late. The midfielder has four goals in his last five games in all competitions. Perhaps someone else will step up and assist him this week? Hamburg had a very poor start to their season, and they looked like they put things together before a recent bout of inconsistency. They went through a stretch of picking up 10 out of 12 points before a current 3 out of 9 stretch including last week's beating from Bayern Munich. Rafael Van der Vaart, Artjoms Rudnevs, and Heung-Min Son have the goods to beat this Freiburg side.
Prediction: Freiburg 1 - 2 Hamburg
Augsburg vs Borussia Dortmund - 15:30 CET / 9:30 AM EDT
What's that? Borussia Dortmund is playing Augsburg this weekend? I'm so very sorry, Augsburg supporters. Do we really need to do any advanced analysis here for this one? No. We do not.
Prediction: Augsburg 0 - 4 Borussia Dortmund
Fortuna Düsseldorf vs Hoffenheim - 15:30 CET / 9:30 AM EDT
Düsseldorf have picked up only one point out of their last fifteen. Seriously. It hasn't been a good stretch of games. They didn't concede a single goal in the league until Matchday 6, but they've shipped fifteen since that time. That's not good defense. Hoffenheim haven't been any better, and they sit only one point ahead of Düsseldorf. I blame all of Hoffenheim's problems at the feet of Tim Wiese. I'm not a fan. I think they pull this one out though.
Prediction: Fortuna Düsseldorf 0 - 1 Hoffenheim
Sunday, November 11
Wolfsburg vs Bayer Leverkusen - 15:30 CET / 9:30 AM EDT
The season hasn't gone to plan for Wolfsburg, and the club was forced to sack Felix Magath a few weeks ago. They currently sit in the relegation zone, and they were the first side Nürnberg beat since Matchday 3. They're still being managed by caretaker Lorenz-Günther Köstner. Only one side in the league has scored fewer goals than Wolfsburg, and they'll need to get Bas Dost and his support going for this club to find any success this season. Leverkusen have been on a good run, and they moved ahead of Borussia Dortmund in the table after a 3-2 win over Fortuna Düsseldorf last week. Stefan Kießling has been outstanding this season with six goals to his name and a total of 19 goals in Bundesliga play in 2012. The return of Sidney Sam to the lineup has been a welcome boost, and they've been improving lately.
Prediction: Wolfsburg 2 - 2 Bayer Leverkusen
Stuttgart vs Hannover - 17:30 CET / 11:30 AM EDT
Stuttgart are currently riding a four match unbeaten streak including a victory against Eintracht Frankfurt and a draw away to Borussia Dortmund. After only grabbing 2 points in their first 15, Stuttgart have picked up 11 out of the last 15 points. Hannover hit a dip in form after a stellar start to the season, but a match against Augsburg can help anyone regain their form. Stuttgart has finally flipped the goalscoring switch with seven of their ten goals coming in their last five matches. Hannover need to get Szabolcs Huszti back on the form he was at the start of the season. He was instrumental in nearly every goal, and his drop in form coincides with the club's.
Prediction: Stuttgart 1 - 1 Hannover
Greuther Fürth vs Borussia Mönchengladbach - 17:30 CET / 11:30 AM EDT
Fürth climbed out of the table cellar last week with a draw away to Eintracht Frankfurt. They've only managed to earn one point at home this season, and they'll be looking for more when Gladbach visit late Sunday. The Foals conceded a late penalty against Freiburg to only earn a point at home. Juan Arango is a stud, though. Fürth doesn't have an Arango.
Prediction: Greuther Fürth 0 - 2 Borussia Mönchengladbach
