Manchester City vs. Everton: Final score 1-1, Fellaini the hero and the goat

In their second game in only four days against a Champions League club, Everton proved their pedigree with another credible 1-1 draw. Just like Wednesday's match against Arsenal, Marouane Fellaini was their goal-scorer, but he also pulled down Edin Dzeko in the penalty area to give away the penalty that allowed Manchester City to grab a point on Saturday.

The Citizens got off to an unlucky start, with Aleksandar Kolarov picking up an injury early. He injured a muscle in his leg in the 5th minute and immediately requested a substitution. Jack of all trades Pablo Zabaleta came on to replace him at left back.

Fellaini fired the Toffees in front after 33 minutes with some brilliant effort. His initial attempt, a header on a diagonal ball by Leighton Baines, was well saved by Joe Hart. The big Belgian followed up his shit and managed to nudge it over the line with his thigh. While City had more of the ball up until that point, Everton had looked dangerous when launching direct attacks, and their goal was well-earned.

Unfortunately for Everton, they gave away their lead just before halftime. In the 42nd minute, Fellaini grabbed the arm of Dzeko on a corner kick and pulled him down. Lee Probert had an easy decision to make and pointed to the spot without hesitation. Carlos Tevez, who has been left out for Mario Balotelli and Sergio Aguero as of late, stepped up and buried his spot kick to level the match.

The second half was eventful, with City on top, but Everton defended very well. Tim Howard was strong in net, while Phil Jagielka made a number of quality blocks and clearances. Though they were on the back foot for most of the second half, Everton actually had the best chance to win the match, but couldn't quite take it. Nikica Jelavic had a free kick just outside the penalty area following a foul by Zabaleta on Baines in the 88th minute and managed to hit the target, but Hart was able to parry away. Nothing came of the ensuing corner and both teams will likely feel satisfied with the draw.
