Delio Rossi replaces Ciro Ferrara at Sampdoria

Gabriele Maltinti

Catania came back to win 3-1 over Sampdoria, sounding the death knell for Ciro Ferrara. Samp have appointed Delio Rossi in his place -- perhaps the club have some players that could use a good cuff around the ear?

Sampdoria took the lead at Catania this weekend, only to see the match crumble around their feet, with the rossazzurri eventually winning 3-1. That was the last straw for Samp, who are currently 14th in the table, but are winless in their last three matches. They sent Ciro Ferrara, freshly appointed this summer, packing.

But Siena had already snatched up Giuseppe Iachini, the man who lead Sampdoria to sixth in Serie B, through the playoffs, and on to the top division. So Doria picked up Delio Rossi. Remember him? The man's been managing for two decades now, with his longest stint at Lazio.

The last time we saw Rossi, however, was when he took a swing at Adem Ljajic. That was worse that anything even Sinisa Mihajlovic had done, and Fiorentina kicked him out. Rossi also earned a three-month ban from Italian football.

Alas, now he's back, and we're forced to look at his face rather than Ferrara's cheeky specs. Any bets on who Rossi will punch this time?
