Bochum beat 10-man 1860 Munich 3-0 to advance to the quarterfinals of the DFB Pokal.
The hosts came out with the better attacks early in the match with Mirkan Aydin bringing out a good save in Gabor Kiraly. 1860 then found themselves a man down in the 27th minute when Guillermo Vallori pulled back Alexander Iashvili on a break and was shown a red card. Bochum capitalized within minutes. Zlatko Dedic received a pass from Leon Goretzka and finished to make it 1-0.
Even though they were down a man and down a goal, 1860 kept their composure while looking to equalize before halftime. Just before the whistle Daniel Bierofka came close, but his effort was wide of goal.
The second half was more contentious, but Marcel Maltritz made sure that Bochum was on to the next round. The forward scored with his head in the 75th and 78th minutes to give Bochum and unassailable 3-0 lead.
