Queens Park Rangers were only a few minutes from snatching an important point at St. James' Park, before Shola Ameobi stole a win for Newcastle. The Magpies striker netted a magnificent goal with just under 10 minutes remaining in the match, guiding Newcastle to a 1-0 win and firing his side up the table.

Newcastle had all of the possession and plenty of shots in the first half, but never truly challenged Robert Green's goal. Chiek Tiote was dominant in the center of midfield all game long and helped to create plenty of opportunities for his strikers, but Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse were not their sharpest on Saturday.

Ameobi replaced Cisse after 61 minutes, but didn't make much of an impact until Alan Pardew made his final sub. He brought on Sylvain Marveaux in the 79th minute, and the Frenchman set up Ameobi's winner two minutes later. From the edge of the penalty area, Marveaux picked out Ameobi, who cut back and beat his defender before placing an excellent shot at the far post that Green had no chance to save.
