Chelsea vs. Aston Villa: Final score 8-0 ... uhh, yeah.

This was one of the saddest things ever.

Last week, Aston Villa defeated Liverpool 3-1 at Anfield. There was nothing lucky about the result, and they were clearly the better side. In that context, Sunday's 8-0 slaughter at the hands of Chelsea makes very little sense. Villa are a poor side, but ... come on, are they really this terrible?

There was no point during the match in which Villa looked like they had a chance to nick a result. Fernando Torres scored with an excellent header in the 3rd minute, though he wasn't marked in the slightest. It was very much a sign of what was to come.

David Luiz netted a stunner in the 29th minute, and that was followed up quickly by a Branislav Ivanovic goal, which sent Chelsea into halftime up 3-0. They came out firing after the break, and were held off for a bit by a few excellent Brad Guzan saves. Eventually, not having any teammates got to the Villa goalkeeper, and he let in a long shot by Frank Lampard in the 58th minute. Things only got worse from there.

All three Chelsea substitutes managed to have massive impacts on the match. Oscar came on and notched a goal and two assists, while Ramires scored twice. Lucas Piazon came on for his league debut and quickly notched an assist, though he also missed a penalty. When the final whistle blew, Chelsea had eight goals, and should have had nine, and everyone was left to wish that there was a camera in Villa's locker room post-match.
