Serie A, Week 16: Fiorentina takes on Roma, Inter hosts Napoli

Marco Luzzani

There's potential for a shuffle at the top of Serie A this weekend, if Napoli lose to Inter and Roma beat Fiorentina. Lazio, not playing until Monday, will hope for a chance to push their way back into the top three.

Hot Europa League action has once again extended the Serie A weekend to three days, with both Lazio and Udinese playing on Monday evening. AC Milan and Juventus are assumed to have recovered enough from celebrating moving on to the next round of the Champions League, and will play on Sunday.

Keep an eye out, though -- some fierce whether in Italy means many of the matches set to be played up north may be rescheduled. Ah, winter football.

Saturday, December 8

Atalanta v Parma (6 p.m. local, noon ET)

This match is like the little cartoon before the Pixar movie. Sure, it's cute and all, but you're just waiting for the clash of the mid-table teams to finish so you can move on to the good stuff.

AS Roma v Fiorentina (8:45 p.m. local, 2:45 p.m. ET)

Oooh, it's Vincenzo Montella taking on Roma. The Viola have hit a minor stumbling block in their flight up the table, having drawn their last two matches. Meanwhile, Zdenek Zeman's boys have finally learned a couple things about defending, and have won their last three.

Sunday, December 9

All matches at 3 p.m. local, 9 a.m. ET unless otherwise noted

Cagliari v Chievo Verona

Udinese put four past Cagliari last week. Chievo scored four against Genoa. Yet the fates will conspire to make this a 0-0 draw.

Palermo v Juventus

Antonio Conte is back! Who's excited? Probably not Gian Piero Gasperini.

Pescara v Genoa

These two sides have a combined -30 goal difference. This could be hilarious. Or desperately dull.

Siena v Catania

Serse Cosmi has reached the point where he's begging Daniele De Rossi for help. I guess that's what happens when your team can only beat fellow relegation dwellers.

Torino v AC Milan

If the stars align just right...Milan will still be in seventh. Ah, well. At least they have Stephan El Shaarawy.

Inter Milan v Napoli (8:45 p.m. local, 2:45 p.m. ET)

The battle between second and third is undoubtedly the hottest of the weekend. And because it's taking the coveted Sunday evening slot, it will undoubtedly be the most dull to watch.

Monday, December 10

Sampdoria v Udinese (7 p.m. local, 1 p.m. ET)

A battle between two frustratingly inconsistent sides. If you're placing a bet, just flip a coin.

Bologna v Lazio (9 p.m. local, 3 p.m. ET)

Lazio are unbeaten in their last four, but they need a slip up from the top if they want to regain a Champions League spot. With Napoli, Inter and Fiorentina all in position to drop points, this is one of those "must-wins" for Lazio.
