The College Cup semifinals take place on Friday evening, with all four teams boasting potential future professional players on their rosters.
Thanks to a series of impressive upsets, either a No. 16 seed or No. 12 seed will play in this weekend's College Cup final. Indiana and Creighton, led by two of the country's best coaches, have unexpectedly played their way into the men's College Cup in Hoover, Alabama. They face off in the late semifinal on Friday night.
In that matchup, keep an eye on Indiana forward Eriq Zavaleta, a sophomore who will have a chance to turn professional over the winter if he chooses. Creighton have a couple of solid professional prospects as well, in midfielder Jose Gomez and defender Eric Miller.
The early game is a matchup between a couple of Washington, D.C. area heavyweights. Georgetown is in the College Cup for the first time in their history, but are no fluke team. A slew of experienced upperclassmen have combined with freshman sensation Brandon Allen, Georgetown's scoring leader with 15 goals, to turn the Hoyas into a top national title contender.
Maryland boast the biggest stable of pro-ready talent in this year's College Cup. Midfielder John Stertzer and forward Patrick Mullins are locks to get a shot to play in MLS next season, and Mullins is very likely to get a Generation adidas offer if he opts to forego his final year of eligibility to enter the MLS SuperDraft.
Both of Friday night's games can be seen on ESPNU and Watch ESPN.
Schedule
No. 3 Georgetown vs. No. 2 Maryland - 5 p.m. ET
No. 16 Indiana vs. No. 12 Creighton - 7:30 p.m. ET
