Following an incident at an FA Cup match between Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion, in which he intentionally kicked Adam El-Abd while on the ground, Yohan Cabaye has been suspended three matches for violent conduct by The FA. The suspension will take immediate effect, starting on Wednesday, where Cabaye will be forced to sit out Newcastle's match against Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League.
Cabaye will also miss Premier League matches against Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur. Unless a massive upset occurs at the Africa Cup of Nations, the Magpies will also be without fellow central midfielder Chiek Tiote for those matches. Tiote and Cabaye have made up one of the best midfield partnerships in the Premier League this season. Without those two players, Newcastle is thin in the middle.
Danny Guthrie and Dan Gosling are the likely starters against Blackburn.
