Jack Wilshere hasn't had the best season. Jack Wilshere, in fact, hasn't had any sort of season. The Arsenal midfielder, painted as the great hope for the Gunners (and England as well, come to think of it), has been out of action since July 31st, when he participated in the Emirates Cup. Since, he's been sidelined with a stress fracture of the ankle, and although he was scheduled to be back in training soon... well, that doesn't look like it's going to happen, according to Arsene Wenger:
He had a little setback. We are investigating it at the moment and don't know how bad it is. He sees a specialist today. He has pain again in his ankle. We stopped him straight away. He did it running.
A little setback is fine - not knowing how bad an injury to a star property might be is less fine. This must be incredibly difficult for Arsenal right now. The team needs all the help they can get as they compete with Chelsea for the fourth and final Champions League spot, and every match that Wilshere misses is bad news.

Arsenal Insist Jack Wilshere Not Ruled Out For Season
Arsenal have moved quickly to squash rumors that Jack Wilshere's injury setback will keep him out for the remainder of the season. The midfielder suffered a stress fracture in his foot and speculation was that it would mean the end of his season, but Arsenal say that the stress fracture is in a different area than his original injury and that Wilshere could still return this season.
"The injury is in a different area to his previous surgery," the club said in a statement on its official site. "It will be reassessed in around two weeks time by our medical team and medical experts who have worked together throughout Jack’s recovery."
Equally as important as Wilshere not being ruled out for the season is that Arsenal did not say he would definitely return this season. His injury still remains serious and whether he returns appears to still be a toss up. For a team that sold Cesc Fabregas and was going to lean heavily on Wilshere, the midfielder's injury has been a major blow and is a big reason why they find themselves out of the top four right now.
