Bolton Vs. Arsenal, 2012 Premier League: Trotters Fight It Out To Scoreless Draw

With Chelsea stumbling against Swansea on Tuesday, the a match against lowly Bolton Wanderers was just what the doctor ordered for Arsenal in their quest to jump back into the top four. Unfortunately for the Gunners, they completely failed to take advantage of their relatively weak opponents, wasting a host of opportunities in the first half before getting pegged back and largely outplayed in the second.

Theo Walcott was in large part to blame for Arsenal's failure to score, twice blowing impossibly easy opportunities, shooting straight against Adam Bodgan's legs when one on one with the Trotters goalkeeper in the first half before blasting wide from a very promising position in the second. Not even Robin van Persie could redeem the situation for the Gunners, although the captain did manage to flick the ball onto the post in Arsenal's most promising moment.

Bolton had plenty of chances to do some damage, with David N'gog hitting inches wide twice and Mark Davies coming perilously close to scoring a shock late goal when he battered his way past Per Mertesacker and was thwarted by Wojiech Szczesny's fingertips as he attempted to round the Polish keeper. After the interval, the hosts were more or less comfortable, easily breaking up Arsenal's predictable attacks, and they were well worth the point on the day after fighting their way to a 0-0 draw.
