The good old handshake has been put through some trying times recently. First, the whole thing was called off by the FA when Queens Park Rangers met Chelsea in the FA Cup over the dispute between John Terry and Anton Ferdinand. Then Luis Suarez caused a stir at Old Trafford when he refused to shake Patrice Evra's hand which led to Rio Ferdinand retaliating in kind. But the worst of the lot was saved for Villa Park.
Truly, we live in tragic times.
