Eddie Johnson will join the Seattle Sounders after the Montreal Impact traded him for Lamar Neagle and Mike Fucito.

Eddie Johnson Re-Signs With MLS, Team To Be Decided Friday

It's been a long and winding road, but Eddie Johnson is now poised to return to MLS. The former United States international has re-signed with the league that gave him his professional start, it was announced on Thursday. Which team he'll play for will be determined on Friday when he goes through the Allocation Order.

The Montreal Impact currently hold the top spot in the Allocation Order and could probably use a veteran forward. They are followed by the Vancouver Whitecaps (probably not interested) and the New England Revolution (really need a forward, but who knows with them), Toronto FC (seemingly unlikely) and Chivas USA (again, who knows).

Johnson returns to MLS after having been unemployed since Fulham didn't renew his contract last year. He last played in April when he was on loan at Preston. He hasn't scored a goal since playing for Greek side Aris in 2010. Last August, the league said Johnson was close to signing, but he abruptly pulled out before a deal was finalized. Earlier this year, he had signed with Mexican side Puebla, but was cut after just a few days of training.

Johnson will no doubt be looking to regain the form he flashed that made him attractive to Fulham in the first place. From 2001-08, he was a scoring dynamo in MLS, bagging 41 goals with FC Dallas and the Kansas City Wizards. He has also scored 12 goals in 42 United States national team appearances, but he's earned just one cap since 2009.
