It takes a special set of circumstances for a player to play against his own club, but Brek Shea pulled it off. That is only part of the story, though -- and not even the best part of it.
Shea managed to not only to play against his MLS team, FC Dallas, but he managed to score the match-winner against them. It gets better, though. While playing for the United States U-23 team against Dallas, Shea didn't just score. He got sent off, too.
"It was fun to play against my friends and teammates," Shea told the team's website after being shown two yellow cards in the match. "It got a little rough out there today. We like to battle, but probably a little too much today."
You think so, Brek? A little too much? You got sent off against your own team in a match that doesn't matter. Wait, every match matters, because that is the mantra of every AYSO coach everywhere.
With that in mind, we're going to revise our position back to what we already knew to be true: Brek Shea is the best ever.
