Newcastle United were absolutely fantastic on Sunday evening, even if the final score of their match against Norwich City doesn't quite reflect that. They were well on top for the entire game and very easily could have scored five or six goals if not for a unbelievable performance by John Ruddy. Even though his team lost, he was almost undoubtedly the man of the match as he made nine saves to keep his team in the match until the very end.
Ultimately, his team couldn't capitalize on his brilliance, and Newcastle went on to win 1-0 at St. James' Park. Tim Krul was solid in the other net, making multiple great saves of his own, but he simply didn't have to deal with the barrage of shots that Ruddy did. The Magpies had 10 shots on target and 60 percent of the possession.
The one goal that they did score came in the 11th minute, scored by Papiss Cisse. Jonas Gutierrez provided the assist, swinging a great cross into the center of the box from the left. Cisse made a cutting run in front of Zak Whitbread and poked home with a half-volley finish, scoring what would be the only goal in a game that probably should have ended something like 5-3 to Newcastle.
