Stefan Frei Has Broken Fibula, Will Miss 8-10 Weeks

Toronto FC goalkeeper Stefan Frei sustained a broken fibula at Friday's training session and is expected to miss 8-10 weeks, the team announced on Saturday. Frei apparently suffered the injury when his cleat got stuck in the turf and it was supposedly a non-contact incident.

While the injury is surely devastating to Frei, it's probably not the end of the world for TFC. At the very least, Frei was sharing the starting goalkeeper job with Milos Kocic, who has started 2 of 3 competitive matches this season. Frei is coming off arguably his worst season as a pro, going 3-12-11 and stopping less than 70 percent of the shots he faced in 2011.

Kocic, by contrast, went 3-1-4 and stopped nearly 78 percent of the shots he faced in MLS play. Kocic also was in goal for TFC's 2-1 win over the LA Galaxy in the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal earlier this year and had started their MLS season opener.
