Real Madrid Vs. Real Sociedad, 2012 La Liga: Madrid Surges To 3-1 Lead

Stay connected with SB Nation

A goal late in the first half for Real Sociedad can't dampen Real Madrid's spirits. Los Merengues dominated the first half, knocking the ball around with ease and getting goals from Gonzalo Higuain, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema to score the first three of the match and give them a 3-1 halftime lead.

Benzema was a menace from the beginning and he contributed to the first goal when he fed Higuain, who finished to put the home side up early. Kaka was the helped on the second goal, playing Ronaldo in for the goal before Benzema made his presence felt with a goal to put Madrid ahead, 3-0. A deflected shot by Xabi Prieto did give Sociedad some life when it got over Iker Casillas and into the corner of the net, but Madrid were still dominant.

With Barcelona already winning today, Madrid needs a win to keep their cushion in La Liga and they are playing like it. A referee's error meant that Sergio Ramos was not suspended for today's match despite being sent off last match and he, along with the rest of Madrid, are all smiles at halftime.
