Real Sociedad didn't have a chance against Real Madrid on Saturday. The home side may have been without Mesut Ozil and Jose Mourinho after both were sent off in midweek action, but a clerical error allowed Sergio Ramos to play despite also being sent off and the Merengues took it to the visitors. Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo each picked up a brace and Gonzalo Higuain added another as Madrid picked up a 5-1 victory to stay six points clear of Barcelona, who also won on Saturday.
It took Higuain all of six minutes to put Madrid in front as he took a good pass from Benzema and finished to ignite the Bernabeu early. A Ronaldo goal thanks to a helper from Kaka put Madrid up 2-0 and Benzema finally got on the scoresheet after a half of menacing play to make it 3-0 in favor of the Merengues.
Sociedad finally got something of their own just before the break when Xabi Prieto's shot took the perfect deflection to loop over Iker Casillas, but it wasn't nearly enough for the visitors. Benzema scored again before five minutes had even passed in the second half and Ronaldo added his second as Madrid won going away to keep their cushion on their Catalan rivals.
