AC Milan may have picked up a win over AS Roma on Saturday, but they lost Thiago Silva for up to a month in the process. The star center back went down just 10 minutes into the match with a thigh injury and was immediately subbed off. On Sunday, the team got the news that he would be out for at least five league matches and both legs of the team's Champions League quarterfinal tie against Barcelona.
"AC Milan announces Thiago Silva has undergone an MRI today which has revealed a muscular lesion in his right thigh," a statement from the club read. "The recovery period is set for three to four weeks, unless [there are] complications.''
Silva's absence will make an already difficult task that much harder for Milan when they host Barcelona on Wednesday, with the return leg a week later. Not only does Silva's injury issue a blow to Milan's Champions League dreams, but it could also hurt their chances to win Serie A, which they lead by just four points over Juventus.

Thiago Silva was forced to leave the match between AC Milan and AS Roma after less than ten minutes. The rossoneri defender injured himself during the warm up but managed to take his spot in the starting lineup. Unfortunately for the home side, he pulled up short in the tenth minute, signaling to the bench his inability to continue. Gianluca Zambrotta came in to take his place.
If there's anything that could have given the Roma side more hope than a Zlatan Ibrahimovic red card, it's the loss of Thiago Silva, undoubtedly Milan's best defender. With the addition of Zambrotta in his place, the giallorossi front three will look to exploit the weakness in the home side's central defence.
But for Milan, it's more than the loss of their defender for this match. The rossoneri face Barcelona midweek, and will dread meeting the champions without the steadiness of Thiago Silva at the back.
