Liverpool Vs. Arsenal, 2012 Premier League Week 27: Both Teams Riding Momentum

Liverpool and Arsenal are difficult to separate ahead of their massive Premier League clash at Anfield.

This season has been slightly disappointing for both Arsenal and Liverpool, who didn't expect to struggle so much to contend for European places. Tottenham Hotspur has performed better than expected, keeping both teams outside of the top four for most of the season, but things are looking up for both sides. Arsenal beat that Spurs side in the North London Derby last weekend, while Liverpool defeated Cardiff City to lift the Carling Cup.

Unfortunately for both teams, those big games and the international break were not kind to their players. Daniel Agger will definitely miss out for Liverpool, while Steven Gerrard is not a certainty to start. Thomas Vermaelen and Robin van Persie both picked up knocks on international duty and aren't expected to start for Arsenal. Both teams were already missing key players like Jack Wilshere and Lucas Leiva to long-term injuries, so they're not exactly overflowing with depth at the moment.

Liverpool have not yet lost at Anfield, though they don't exactly dominate at home either. They draw at home more often than any other club, and they have twice as many draws as they do wins at Anfield. Arsenal, meanwhile, have won just five of their 13 road games, but their goal differential of minus-two isn't terrible considering that record. Between the form of the two clubs, their injuries and Liverpool's home record, a draw appears to be on the cards.
