After less than a year in charge of Chelsea FC, Andre Villas-Boas has been sacked. Chelsea has been disappointing for most of the Premier League season, and rumors that his job was insecure began to circulate after the Blues lost 3-1 to Napoli in the UEFA Champions League. On Saturday, Chelsea played poorly in a loss to West Bromwich Albion that put them three points behind Arsenal for fourth place.
Andre Villa-Boas has parted company with Chelsea Football Club today.
The board would like to record our gratitude for his work and express our disappointment that the relationship has ended so early.
Unfortunately the results and performances of the team have not been good enough and were showing no signs of improving at a key time in the season.
Former Chelsea player and current assistant manager Roberto Di Matteo will take over as caretaker manager for the remainder of the season. Di Matteo was the manager of West Bromwich Albion from 2009 to 2011 before he took the job as Chelsea assistant manager.
