Ligue 1 2012, Week 27 Preview And Fixtures: Lyon Hopes To Save Their Season Against Lille

HANNOVER, GERMANY - JULY 24: Lars Stindl of Hannover 96 fights for the ball with Aly Cissokho of Lyon during the pre season friendly match between Hannover 96 and Olympique Lyon at the AWD Arena on July 24, 2011 in Hannover, Germany. (Photo by Lars Kaletta/Bongarts/Getty Images)

With the entire bottom half of the table still within striking distance of the bottom three, will this be the week separation begins?

Brest vs. Bordeaux

Saturday 3/10; 19:00 CET/1:00 PM ET

If this game was food, it would be a butter and saltine sandwich.

Pick: Bordeaux, 1-0

Evian vs. Sochaux

Saturday 3/10; 19:00 CET/1:00 PM ET

The fact that one of these teams has allowed more goals than all but one team and sits bottom of the table while the other is in 10th and comfortably out of relegation trouble is not much of a surprise. The fact that Sochaux is the former and Evian is the latter, however, is.

Pick: Evian, 2-1

Nice vs. Nancy

Saturday 3/10; 19:00 CET/1:00 PM ET

I have a feeling that I could say literally anything in this capsule and no one would notice. It could be a recipe for pot brownies or something and it would draw nary a comment. Maybe I should hide some sort of instruction to see if people are reading, like the brown M&Ms thing in Van Halen's rider.

Pick: Draw, 1-1

Toulouse vs. Lorient

Saturday 3/10; 19:00 CET/1:00 PM ET

This is a big one for Lorient, assuming they'd like to avoid getting sucked down into the relegation battle. It would be pretty weird if they didn't want to avoid such a thing; one would think that would kind of force the board to reexamine the people they've put in charge.

Pick: Toulsouse, 2-1

Valenciennes vs. St. Etienne

Saturday 3/10; 19:00 CET/1:00 PM ET

St. Etienne are dead even with Rennes for 4th creeping up on Lille for the last Champions League place. Valenciennes aren't doing squat but hey, at least that's better than going to fart around with Sedan in Ligue 2.

Pick: Draw, 1-1

Lyon vs. Lille

Saturday 3/10; 21:00 CET/3:00 PM ET

This is the big game of the weekend. Lyon need a big result at home in order to keep much hope of saving their season alive (though getting bounced from the Champions League by a team from Cyprus didn't really do much to help in that department). Lille continue to just kind of tick along, somehow staying in third without ever doing much of anything.

So if that's not enough to get you pumped up for the weekend's biggest game, I don't know what is!

Pick: Lyon, 2-1

Dijon vs. PSG

Sunday 3/10; 18:00 CET/12:00 PM ET

PSG will win, but only after giving everyone hope for like 85 minutes. I'm guessing Gameiro does something impossible, or perhaps an own-goal.

Pick: PSG, 2-1

Rennes vs. Auxerre

Sunday 3/10; 18:00 CET/12:00 PM ET

Rennes look like Lille's most dangerous competitors for the final Champions League spot, while Auxerre look like Sochaux's biggest rival for "what in god's name has happened to you" status.

Pick: Rennes, 3-1

Montpellier v. Caen

Sunday 3/10; 22:00 CET/4:00 PM ET

Montpellier has made a habit of doing really weird and unexpected things all season. Most of them have been good, but they're such a weird team that every game looks like a trap. With PSG facing an easily beatable team, they don't really have room for anything of the sort.

Pick: Montpellier, 3-1
